Did we manage to get the Apple iPad in time? We almost…
Monday, June 21st, 2010If you had read my earlier post on Apple iPad review (http://rogerloh.me/blog/apple-ipad-review-5th-avenue-new-york/), we made a reservation of an Apple iPad for my brother-in-law.
So… did we manage to get the Apple iPad in time?
Before we talk about that, allow me share an IMPORTANT marketing lesson with you here.
My question is:
How do you sell anything like hot cakes?
It doesn’t matter:
…if your product is the best in town
…if your service is the best on the planet
What matters is… a hungry crowd, I repeat, A HUNGRY CROWD!
That’s right -
In order to sell anything like hot cakes, what you really need is just a hungry crowd.
And… I saw it with my own eyes at the Apple Shop at Fifth Avenue, New York.
I have never seen anything like this before… (See the crowd pouring into the store all day long below! By the way, the shop is open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year!)
And naturally, we had to fight our way into the shop, grab hold of a demo Apple iPad, then after my wife checked her email, she jumped with joy!
YES!! A email just came into her inbox with the subject title:
“Your Apple iPad has arrived…”
Happily, she elbowed her way through the crowd, then explained to a staff on duty that we are rushing to the airport and need to collect the iPad fast. But she said, “No way! You just have to queue for your turn”
And we knew that we’ll miss the flight if we queue. So, thank GOD another staff (presumably more experienced) came by and was willing to help with our collection immediately
Then, as we got out of the Apple shop and I posed for a picture above (TOP LEFT), a passer-by said to us loudly, “Congratulations!”
Next, a cab stopped by and sped us back to the hotel before we headed to the airport. My wife sent her brother a text message and he was overjoyed. We almost… missed it. It was a close shave.
