Kahlil Gibran’s quote: “Our children come through us, but not from us”

Are you responsible for who you are? As I do my daily reading this morning, I come across this quote by Dahlil Gibran, a Lebanese American artist, poet, and writer:
“Our children come through us, but not from us”
In fact, I was reading motivational speaker Les Brown’s “Live Your Dreams” where he was describing how he hated his natural parents who abandoned him as a baby. He had no idea who they were and not even a picture to look at.
Les was holding a grudge against his natural parents and said it was a lot of work!
Till…
… he contemplated Gibran’s quote above and finally dropped the baggage.
Kahlil Gibran said that our parents bring us into the world, but in the end, we are responsible for what we become. Parents, he said, are like the archer’s bow and their children the arrows.
