Do you like Bak Kut Teh? If you do, you must absolutely try the Bak Kut Teh in Klang, Malaysia which is one of my favorite food in KL…

(Sorry, Malaysians… to a Singaporean like me, somehow I regard KL and Klang to be the same place much like Jurong and Geylang as Singapore :) )

Eversince my good friend Sern Yi brought me for Bak Kut Teh in Klang, every time I go to KL, I must make time to have a bite there!

It’s that good! After all, Klang is just half an hour’s drive from KL (during the night when there’s little traffic, I mean).

What is Bak Kut Teh?

According to Wikipedia, Bak Kut Teh is 肉骨茶, literally meaning “pork rib tea”:

——– EXCERPT FROM WIKIPEDIA ——–

Bak kut teh (Hokkien: 肉骨茶) is a Chinese soup popularly served in Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan and Indonesia (where there is a predominant Hoklo and Teochew community) and also, cities of neighbouring countries like Batam of Indonesia and Hat Yai of Thailand.

The name literally translates as “meat bone tea”, and, at its simplest, consists of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds and garlic) for hours.

However, additional ingredients may include offal, varieties of mushroom, choy sum, and pieces of dried tofu or fried tofu puffs. Additional Chinese herbs may include yu zhu (rhizome of Solomon’s Seal) and ju zhi (buckthorn fruit), which give the soup a sweeter, slightly stronger flavor. Light and dark soy sauce are also added to the soup during cooking, with varying amounts depending on the variant. Garnishings include chopped coriander or green onions and a sprinkling of fried shallots.

——– END OF EXCERPT  ——–

Just two days ago, I enjoyed yet another round of delicious Bak Kut Teh at my favorite spot in Klang.

How to get there?

Drive towards Klang from KL along Federal Highway. You will pass Sunway, Subang and the two Toll gates. After that, watch out for the ING building on your left near Jalan Batu Tiga Lama. And that’s where there are quite a number of shop houses and you can easily find more than 10 coffee shops selling Bak Kut Teh!
